Marked House of Night (1)

Review
This book is about a girl called Zoey Montgomery, who gets marked by a Tracker at her high school. After seeing her friends are a little freaked, she heads home hoping for some comfort from her mother, but since she re-married to her step-dad she hasn't been the same, and so calls him home. He arranges for the Prayer Tree to come, and the family shrink Dr.Asher. Zoey asks to go and lie down, but instead packs some of her things and does a runner, deciding once in her car, to go to her grandmothers house. She arrived noticing a note on the door and goes to find her grandmother in her Lavender garden. She falls and cuts her head open, and wakes up in the House of Night, where she meets her mentor High Priestess Neferet and later is taken to her roommate Stevie Rae by the school's IT girl, Aphrodite. Zoey soon learns that she needs to study and learn about becoming a vampyre and if you fail you die. As she continues to learn and talks with her friends she comes to realize she has the ability to feel the five elements and thinks she has been marked to overthrow future High Priestess Aphrodite and take her place as future leader of the Dark Daughters.

This is a very good read, however, I found the first chapter, although short, rather difficult to get into as I felt too much Information had been packed in, and should have been explained over the next few chapters. But I read the second chapter and from then on was hooked! The House of Night reminded me of Harry Potter for Vampyre's, and was great to hear another side to vampirism. I cant wait to read the second book, Betrayed, and I'll definitely be adding the entire series to my shelf.
I have rated this book 9 out of 10, very unputdownable.
